Just chatting with an old client who is planning a road trip across the USA later in the year with his 17 yo son (on a motorbike the lucky bugger!).

He’s purchased a large highway map – 2 metres x 1.4 metres – so he can put it on the wall and draw on it with a marker so he can plan out his trip.

We’re laminating it for him, so then he can draw on it, then wipe it off after as he changes plans over the next few months.

What a great idea.

Our Signs Make The News!

Always great when you switch on the local news and see one of your signs featuring!

Such was the case last week when the Gold Coast’s own Jack Sinclair cycled into Surfers Paradise.  Jack, at just 15, cycled under the Surfers Paradise sign to become the youngest person ever to cycle across Australia – an event captured by Ch 9 News, Ch 10, the Gold Coast Bulletin and the Gold Coast Mail.

A staggering 4,500 kms in 30 days!

We were thrilled to be asked to create signage, invitations and more for Jack’s ride – the large banner we printed was held up at the end and Jack rode through a specially made paper “Finish” banner to mark the end of this amazing ride.

Jack was jind enough to say some nice things about us at his Ride Celebration Dinner:

“Thanks to Keith and John and the guys at Laminating Specialists.  The signage we had was fantastic and we had tons of people ask where we got them.”

Thanks Jack!  And good effort!

Awful Gold Coast Weather

Absolutely awful day on the Gold Coast today with torrential rain and really strong winds.

As you can see from the photo right, John still traveled to work on his bike (the question is: Just how thoroughly does he read this site??!).

Not too many people ventured in today, but the emails and FTP uploads increased.

As you might know, we have clients from many, many miles away – with email and the phone we can service your printing needs from anywhere.

I was talking with a mate of mine today who is a well-known marketing guy.  He’d read the entry about the car window signage and I was asking his if he ever recommends things like that to his clients.

I was also interested to know if he thought the price was too high or too low.

His answer was fascinating:

1.  He recommends everything to his clients – “Try everything!” he tells them.

He says some things work for some business, others don’t.  He has 1 client who pulled in a huge client from a $30 ad in one of those free community newspapers.  The same client gets no joy from a $4,000 ad in the big city papers.

“To be successful all you have to do is test and measure. If it works, keep doing it.  if it doesn’t work, stop doing it. 95% of businesses have no idea what brings in the business,” was his advice.

All you need is the right customer to see you’re sign and it can explode your business.

2.  Re our price being too high or too low – he told me it was a stupid question! (Bit rough I know!).

“Nothing to do with price.  If the car window signage pulls me in $100,00 worth of profit a year then I’d happily pay $50,000 for the back windscreen to be covered.

If the window signage pulls in $1.50 in business then I wouldn’t want to pay $2 for it.”

“It has nothing to do with the price, it’s all about the value.”
